Marketing and Communications Manager

New York, United States | Communications | Full-time | Allows remote

Happy Cog is looking for a full-time Marketing and Communications Manager to join our team. We’re a growing, remote friendly interactive agency of 70+ people in Manhattan's NoMad District with great clients (like Google, Airbnb, &pizza, Dig Inn, Etsy, The Associated Press, New York City, St. Regis, Harvard, Yale, Columbia University, and WPP) and an incredible roadmap.

You'll be responsible for growing Happy Cog's public profile and external awareness of our brand, capabilities, and client accomplishments. Your successful execution will lead to increased new business opportunities (because potential clients will hear about our great work!) and benefit our recruiting (because potential employees will want to be part of that great work!).

We are open to applicants with mid-level or senior/director experience levels. This position doesn't currently exist at Happy Cog and we want you to help us define it.

(Office note: our NYC office is currently closed due to COVID-19. However, this is a remote friendly position and we are open to any remote applicants even after the office reopens in 2021).

You will:

  • Create a PR strategy for each of our large impact and notable client successes/project launches, key hires, relevant new business wins, awards, and other important news. Help figure out what is important, and which methods of sharing have the most impact for Happy Cog.
  • Create and nurture awareness of -- and relationships with -- industry press/magazines/publications, and proactively work to increase Happy Cog's exposure within them.
  • Look for opportunities to be featured in publications popular among our clients’ industries, to gain visibility to more potential clients where Happy Cog has relevant experience.
  • Take responsibility for strategy, tone, editorial calendar, and execution of all forms of outbound communications coming from Happy Cog, including press releases and blog posts on, our Cognition blog, social media, and partner publications. Help drive execution and distribution of thought leadership pieces.
  • Work with our project teams and President of Business Development to turn our successes into case studies that can be used on the website and in the sales process.
  • If applicable, work with a client communications team on a joint promotional plan.
  • Enter Happy Cog into consideration for industry awards, discovering new opportunities and owning the application process and strategy around the most useful award wins.
  • Create a communications strategy for industry events we are sponsoring and/or hosting (once our office is open again).
  • Raise recognition of key Happy Cog employees and services by identifying and nurturing bylines, speaking opportunities, and more.

  • Communications, public relations, marketing, or corporate communications experience in-house at a digital, media, or advertising agency. You need to understand the work Happy Cog does.
  • Demonstrated success with marketing/communications strategies like these in the past.
  • Detail-oriented; strong interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and decision making skills
  • Proven history of good judgment. Your words and decisions will reflect publicly on Happy Cog.
  • Exceptional written communication skills; ability to succinctly communicate complex ideas into a digestible form.
